Dining

The Seacoast is a superb culinary destination. In fact, TV Diner featured Portsmouth as a "Delicious Destination" in March 2009. Greater Portsmouth boasts hundreds of fine restaurants - from American cuisine to Italian to the freshest seafood around, from casual spots and breweries to upscale restaurants and intimate hideaways. Summer visitors can enjoy waterfront dining overlooking the Piscataqua River and the trademark tugboats, or relax at an outdoor café in Market Square for some people-watching. Visit in the winter months and cozy up to live music and New England comfort foods. Visit anytime of year for brewery tours, local bands and of course, the nightlife.

A tax-free island located at the junction of three states, Portsmouth is truly a buyer's heaven! Portsmouth enjoys a healthy and vibrant shopping culture, with locally owned boutiques and specialty shops in the downtown, bargains galore at nearby Kittery and Tanger Outlets in Maine, and the extensive Fox Run Mall next door in Newington.  The variety of the more than 400 shops have made the Seacoast a virtual cornucopia of styles and tastes with treasures to be found for every member of the family.   For something unique, visit Portsmouth's Farmer's Market, held every Saturday from May through October on the hill overlooking South Mill Pond.
